While I was growing up my family would spend one weekend a year in Castine, ME. It was for a conference my mom attended at the Maine Maritime Academy there. It was a family focused conference so everyone brought their spouses and children and they had so much going on for everyone involved. I remember having a blast during these weekends and I especially remember how beautiful the town of Castine was. For mother’s day we decided to spend a night there and explore a bit. We stayed at The Manor Inn, a stunning bed and breakfast set just a little bit away from the Academy and downtown.
This staircase- insert heart eye emoji here.
After we checked in we wanted to immediately start exploring. We knew of a lighthouse nearby and decided to check it out first. Dyce Head lighthouse is a really sweet one. It’s attached to a private residence but has a foot path you can walk along to get a good view of it.
After, we went into town. Castine has history all over the place. There are wooden signs everywhere marking spots of historical significance. Julian loved exploring Fort George. After the fort we drove down to the water and explored Castine’s downtown. Castine is a VERY seasonal spot with most of their shops and restaurants open only during short hours in the summer. We were able to find a few things though including the local school’s playground that Julian LOVED. We also walked a bit around the Castine Inn gardens.
Another favorite from Mr. Photographer Julian.
Then it was back to the Manor for dinner. It was the only place open in the area and it was so good. They had one of those pianos that plays themselves. I didn’t get any photos but Julian was convinced that I ghost was playing the piano as the keys were pressed with noone there. It added a spooky element to our stay in a new spot. The rest of the evening we hung out in our room, which was equal parts cozy and fancy. No matter where we go and what we do I find that my favorite part of our adventure is hanging out in a new space playing board games with these two.
The next morning we went downstairs for breakfast. Staying at the Manor Inn comes with a free morning breakfast made to order. I remember we were really impressed with the meal. Thanks Castine! Up next- PUERTO RICO!!!
